The Monster that won't die

This is becoming like a 1950's monster film, where the monster is down, but not out and just keeps coming back for more.

Sen. Larry Craig Vows To Stay In Office

It begs the question of what is he trying to achieve when he seems to be defying every single member of his own party, minus one Arlen Specter? I know that in both my personal and professional life, I never pursue a course of action, unless I expect to achieve some intended results. What I cannot figure out is Craig trying to preserve his seat in the Senate even though he has been proved to be a lying hypocrite, or is he trying to simply drag himself and his family through more rubbish in a vain effort to prove something that he has already been convicted of in the court of public opinion. Does he really think the fine folks of Idaho will re-elect him in 2008 if he gets off the hook here?

Then again, my fellow Nutmeggers re-elected the lying Joe Lieberman, so maybe he will have enough political lives to weather the storm.

Almost as fast as I posted this another news story hit the wires saying that Craig is getting ready to leave the Senate. I am telling you, this is like watching a bad monster movie.

Talk about flip-flopping. This is just so ridiculous, the man has no ctedibility left. He ought to just bow out gracefully.

He is even making Bill Clinton look stable. I think bowing out gracefully is simply out of the question. None of these politicians have the ego to allow them to simple step aside gracefully. It is just not possible.

I think the better question is:

Why would Arlen Specter stand up for Larry Craig?

Anyone that knows anything about Arlen Specter will tell you that he would never do this unless there were a political reason. We have to ask ourselves, what politically would make Specter want to keep Larry Craig in the Senate?

When you look at their profiles, you find that both Specter and Craig have been openly against the NSA spying program. If Specter wants to go head-to-head with Bush on this for us, he's going to need all the Republican votes he can get. Craig leaving the Senate would make one of those votes disappear.

Who benefits? Bush.

Then listen to that message that Craig intended for his lawyer. In the message, we find out that Specter believes Craig was "railroaded", as in set up.

Look again at who benefits.

And the kicker for me is that if Specter believed that Craig was "railroaded" by the Democrats, he and Craig would be shouting it from the rooftops. They're not.

So who do they think "railroaded" him?

Well, who would benefit from Craig leaving the Senate?

Maybe there is another, bigger, story behind this Larry Craig thing...
