I support Stamford Public Schools proposed 4x4 high school block schedule

Yes, Stamford its true. I support the proposed 4x4 block scheduling for the high schools in the coming year. I know this makes me the villain in the most hated plot to sabotage our very smart and successful high school students ever. I am not going to read all the contrary evidence that many of you have published, since I am not an education expert. I rely on the administration and begrudgingly the board of education to make the decisions that are in the best interest of all students, not just my children.

Let’s remember the goal of public education is help all children fulfill their diverse potential and enable students to become well-rounded individuals. We live in a diverse community and the needs of our entire population needs to be met. If this plan can help a segment of our population be more successful without significantly impacting those who are already succeeding, what is the downside? Do those of you who are outraged think your child is going to fall off the cliff they have already scaled simply by changing the landscape?  I will bet they will adapt.  Will it be easy?  For some yes, others will need to learn to climb again but I am sure you will do everything you can to help your student succeed.  Overcoming these challenges will actually make your child stronger in the long run because they learned to do things in a different way.  Not every family in Stamford has the same advantages to provide that additional support, so if this plan helps students that are not currently succeeding, then Stamford and our entire community benefits in the long run

Yes change is scary, and yes all of our children will be impacting, but I would rather focus my energy in helping my freshman son to adapt, providing the support he needs to allow the community as a whole to reach for greater heights, to give the students who have been underserved a better change to be productive members of our community now and into the future.

On some levels parallels can be drawn between the actions happening here and other districts that are banning books or changing the content of what is being taught in the classroom because several vocal parents have complained vociferously, in spite of those views not being in the best interest of the city as a whole.

I have faith in Amy Beldotti, she is a graduate, a teacher, an administrator, an assistant superintendent and a parent in Stamford Public Schools.  I honestly believe that as a member of this administration she knows what is best to help all of our students succeed and wouldn't support this plan if it was going to help more students succeed and if was going to impact those students who already do well.

This issue has been investigated and debated for 6 years and was postponed because of Covid, so it was not just sprung on us. Everyone has jumped on the kill the block scheduling plan band wagon, that there has been little or no attempt for those that support the plan or those that have legitimate questions to air their views without fear of social media ostracism and having all the oxygen in the debate sucked out of the air by those who vehemently oppose the plan trying to convince others to support their position.

I support this plan because I would like to see Stamford continue to grow and prosper.  We have seen incredible growth over the past 15-20 years, while all elected officials over that time have refused to invest in our schools.  This is an opportunity to invest in our schools and make Stamford more desirable to families looking to move to our community as it as a differentiating factor that makes Stamford schools unique when compared to our neighboring communities.   I would like to ensure this city remains appealing as a place for all 3 of my children to consider living when they finish college and have careers and families of their own.  My wife and sister-in-law grew up in Stamford, and so many of their classmates and friends have chosen to live here too as adults.  I believe the 4x4 plan will allow Stamford to be that place that will continue to attract young families which is the pipeline to long term growth and prosperity.

Please remember this is my page, and I am not looking to debate this issue. Please keep your comments to me or anyone else kind and courteous.
