Only 2 (maybe 3 with Pedro Martinez) of his comparable players in the Hall of Fame.  He was  a good player, who excelled in the playoffs.  Certainly not a Hall of Fame caliber player.  BBWA will lose more credibility in my mind if he is voted in this year, or in the future.  The only thing he has going for him is an unscathed reputation, not tainted by Steroids and the BBWA seems to want to reward mediocre players (Barry Larkin) with induction if they believe they are clean.

He was in the leage for 20 years which begs the question of he was stats compiler, rather than a real super star?

More evidence against -
Career wins - 216, ranking him 82nd with Wilbur Cooper and Charlie Hough
Career ERA - 3.458 ranking him 391 between Rudy May and Paul Derringer
Win/Loss % - .5967 or 127 alltime between Warren Spahn (HOF) and Rip Sewell

Facebook Discussion on the Government 11/10/2012

Laurie Devino "So now that Obama won by 3 million votes not 6000 and liberal ballot initiatives were passed all over the county and conservatives with extreme views on abortion lost house and senate seats and an unprecedented number of women were voted into office (including the first openly gay women in the senate) does that mean the republicans need to remember that they did NOT win by a narrow margin and consensus building is important and perhaps see that the mood of the country is moving to the center and HELP set the tone?"

Jeff Herz "Laurie - "does that mean the republicans need to remember that they did NOT win by a narrow margin and consensus building is important?" YES - but will that actually register with them? I doubt it.

My fundamental problem, as opposed to Greg who is now fixated on the electoral college which has been in place for over 210 years, is that "WE THE PEOPLE" don't have a significant voice in our government anymore.

It is now "WE THE PARTY" since very rarely and only when individual earmarks (pork) for constituents districts are at stake does either party vote against their leaders regardless of if they believe in the legislation or not. If Party says no, and you want to move with your initiatives you follow the leader. It is also "WE THE CORPORATIONS" or "WE THE PACS/LOBBY' who have more time and money to spend influencing elected officials across the board, rather than if you or I go to DC to speak with our Senators or Representative. We see it on the local level too where things dont happen unless the party approves it. We need to figure out how to take our government back and make it work for the people, not for others. As citizens with different histories, theologies, ideologies, cultures, heritage, etc. Americans will never 100% agree on anything. However, for centuries and for multiple civilizations government has existed to serve the needs of the people, and we are no exception and need to get back to what its sole purpose is, to help the people."

Why Movember?

Please help support ME and my team Ray Philip, Anthony Nater, Robert Boardman, Jim Stroh in our Movember Campaign. During the month of November we'll be growing Stache's and promoting awareness about men's health issues.
  • The average life expectancy for men is five years fewer than women (presently 77 years old compared to 82).
  • 1 in 2 men, and 1 in 3 women, will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
  • Evidence suggests that about a third of the 571,950 cancer deaths expected to occur this year will be related to obesity, physical inactivity and poor nutrition, and thus could be prevented.
  • 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime.
  • In 2012, 242,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed and more than 28,000 men will die of prostate cancer.
  • Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in American males between the ages of 15 and 35.
  • 8,590 men will be diagnosed with the disease in 2012 and 360 will die.
  • 6 million people die every year from tobacco use and exposure to tobacco smoke. One person dies every six seconds.
  • 1 in every 13 men will develop lung cancer.
  • While not as common, men can get breast cancer. About 2,140 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed among men and about 450 men will die from the disease in 2012.
  • More than 3.5 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year in the US.
  • In 2012, an estimated 13 million or 11.8% of all adult men over the age of 20 in the US have diabetes.
  • Approximately 76.4 million men and women in the US have high blood pressure- 1 in 5 do not know it.
  • About 1 in 3 adults has high blood pressure, and blood pressure tends to rise with age.
  • Researchers estimate that at least 6 million men in the United States suffer from a depressive disorder every year.
  • Four times as many men commit suicide compared with women.
  • 24% of men are less likely to go to the doctor compared to women.
  • Esophageal cancer in 2011, which is 3-4 times more common in men than women.
  • Testicular cancer, male breast cancer, prostate cancer, all male cancers.
