A few thoughts on the world for a Sunday morning

A few thoughts on the world for a Sunday morning (apologies for the long read)

No American should be considered your enemy regardless of ideological perspective and we must stop saying that the opposition hates OUR country.  Everyone I know, left, right and middle love this country and wants to continue to make it a great place to live, love and raise a family.  We all have different perspectives on how this can be achieved, but that does not mean anyone hates this country

So, I ask you, please take the time and read what the other side is saying before you post stuff, so you get a different perspective.  I am not asking you to change your belief or opinion just understand what bullshit you are reading and posting (both left and right) versus what is fact-based reality.

Can we also stop the generalized name calling of the other party?  Democrats are not all socialists or anti-capitalist and do not want to go to a purely socialist government.  Republicans are not all fascists and don’t want a dictatorship.  There may be some in each of the ranks that believe this, but I must believe that this does not apply to the majority in either party and the average American will stand up to fight for democracy together.

We cannot allow ourselves to further be divided by those in power as it only benefits them and does nothing for We The People.  We must figure out how to work together and bridge the differences that have developed over the past generation.  We must find what unites us and work to build upon that, otherwise we are in fact doomed as a country as the rhetoric and fault lines will continue to pull us apart, leading us to a future I don’t think any of us actually want to see and experience.

Let’s consider that the right is convinced that Obama was an evil dictator, the worst president ever, who was going to take invade red states, take away our guns, and was not going to allow fair elections or not give up the presidency.  The left thought he was great and never believed those things to be true.  Now the left is believing essentially the same thing about the sitting president, while most on the right think he is doing a fine job representing the agenda for which they voted.  I expect (nee demand) Trump will cede power when his term is up (either by losing in 2020 or by constitutional mandate and not running in 2024) and assume everyone reading this will ensure that happens peacefully as is the American process for over 200 years.

Yes, our election process flawed, how much of these flaws led to the election of this president?  I don’t know and at this point don’t care.  All I do know is we cannot change what has occurred and this is the path we are on now.  We can only learn from it and try to let the same flaws occur again.  Foreign countries should not be able to influence our elections. Corporate shills should not be able to hack our election process changing the votes of citizens casting ballots.  We live in a fast-paced social environment with too much false information that we want to believe regardless of the source.  Let’s stop and take a breath, talk to your neighbor, your former classmate, go out for a cup of coffee and try to find common ground and build upon that.  This is what is going to bring our country back together, not mud slinging but honest conversation. Not arguing but working together to fix what is broken.

Finally, can we agree to end the hypocrisy and hold our representatives to a common standard.  They work for us.  If something is wrong for one party, then it is wrong for both.  It does not matter which party you belong and how you will obtain or retain power inside the beltway. Wrong is wrong.  We need to get our representatives (notice I did not say our leaders, as they represent our goals and aspirations, not their own) to fight for what is right for America, not the party.  We need to hold everyone accountable to the same standards and now overlook some short coming because they are our guy or gal.
